Divergent space

Youth work sessions and support for home educated neurodivergent young people and their families

Group work for neurodivergent young people

Divergent space provide peer support youth work sessions for young people who identify as, are diagnosed or are in the process of getting a diagnosis (a formal diagnosis isn’t necessary to attend these sessions.) This includes: ADHD, dyspraxia, tourettes, dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, autism, and other neurotypes not defied as “neurotypical.” Everyone is welcome.

The sessions will use interactive, accessible formats, explore issues, facilitate discussions and provide a safe space for young people to connect. They are offered on a block booking basis, or if you prefer you can book single sessions, as I know it can be sometimes be difficult to plan in advance.

These sessions aim to:

  • Develop knowledge of and learn about neurodiversity or their diagnosis.

  • Build confidence and self esteem

  • Improve wellbeing and understanding of themselves

  • Meet other young people with similar experiences who ‘get it.’

  • improve understanding of support available and how to advocate for their needs.

  • Have fun and socialise!

Group work for siblings

Children and young people can often feel overshadowed by the needs of their neurodivergent sibling. These sessions offer support specifically for siblings of neurodivergent children and young people, many who are not recognised as young carers or taking on caring responsibilities at home. The small group sessions will offer the opportunity to connect with other young people with similar experiences:

This will enable young people to:

  • Learn about neurodiversity and neurodivergence in a safe, supportive, non-judgemental environment.

  • Share experiences with other young people.

  • Have a break from their caring role and responsibilities at home.

  • Understand where and how to access support.

  • Take part in fun, interactive activities and games.

Virtual coffee for parents/carers

There is also a monthly virtual coffee for parents and carers to get together, share advice or information and support each other. There also may be opportunities to invite occasional speakers from specific support services or charities.

1:1 youth work support sessions

There is also available 1:1 youth work support sessions, for young people or families who would benefit or are facing particular challenges.
