Ever needed a space to vent about issues happening around the world and in your local communities? Interested in learning more about politics in a way that is fun and engaging, but not about passing exams? The online politics chat and debating club will do just that!

These sessions are great Place for home educated young people to express their ideas, engage in meaningful discussions and reflect on different perspectives in an inclusive and supportive environment. Through guided discussions, structured debates, and interactive activities they will develop several core skills.

Why join politics chat and debating club?

Build Confidence: Young people will build confidence in sharing their views, learn to express themselves clearly and persuasively and improve self-esteem.

Think Critically: Through debates, kids will analyze topics, form logical arguments, and explore multiple perspectives, and use evidence to back up ideas.

Practice communication: From speaking with clarity, engaging thoughtfully in different perspectives to active listening, young people develop their communication skills and understand how communication can impact the influence of key messages in an argument.

Explore cooperation and negotiation: Young people will learn to work together with others in the group, explore compromise, and engage in respectful discussions and structured debates.

Engage in weekly topics: We’ll explore a new topic each week, with information sent in advance, giving the whole family to take part in research, explore new issues, and have fun!

When and who can join?​

Politics chat and debating club is suitable for home educated young people age 11-16 interested in learning about politics, current affairs and the issues that shape society and impact communities. It takes place every Wednesday 11am - 12pm.

What to expect

  • Weekly ​1 hour virtual meetings

  • Opportunities to discuss topical issues happening in the news, and to ask questions about what they have seen read and heard.

  • All resources, debate topics and group allocation (for or against an argument) emailed in advance.

  • Small groups of no more than 8-10 so it doesn’t feel overwhelming

  • A variety of different debate topics

  • The opportunity to take part in a guided formal debate each week, with space to offer reflection and constructive feedback as a group.

How do I sign up?

These sessions are free to attend, as I believe that there shouldn’t be barriers to participation in learning about politics, but if you’d like to contribute and are able, support for my work will be very much appreciated. Please sign up in advance of each session, so I can send you a zoom link and any other information you need.
