Home ED Online Magazine
An online magazine written by and for home educated young people
Home Ed magazine is a new initiative to establish a quarterly online magazine for home educated young people and their families to share and celebrate achievements, reflect on important issues, practice writing and see your work published, and collaborate with other in the home educated community. The magazine will be entirely written by and for young people, with oversight and guidance from a trained magazine journalist.
How can I take part?
You can contribute to the magazine in two ways:
Submit articles, stories and creative writing: We need as many different voices to make this magazine a success! Want to share something your proud of? Practice your news writing? Or highlight an issue you want other home educated young people to know? This is the place to do it!
Join our editorial team: I am looking for a team of children and young people of all ages to join the editorial team. The group will meet once a month on Thursdays at 10am - 11am where they will discus article ideas, create content plans, support writing communications for social media to encourage submissions and learn about magazine design. The first job for this group will be naming the magazine!
Why get involved?
Develop writing, creativity and communication skills - young people will learn to express ideas in writing clearly and confidently, practice editing and proofreading (both their own and other people’s work), alongside interviewing people for articles and asking thoughtful questions to tell a story.
Learn about magazine production, editing and design - You will learn how to publish your work online, how to design and layout a magazine and ways to create content for publicity and marketing.
Have your voices heard - whether contributing articles or joining the editorial team young people will have a platform to share their thought and ideas about issues that matter most to them.
Engaging with others and collaboration - If part of the editorial team, young people will work together, discuss ideas and negotiate to finalise plans. They will take responsibility for allocating and managing deadlines, and taking ownership of the project.
Critical thinking and research - Young people will research topics independently, evaluate sources of information and reflect on feedback to improve work.
